Welcome to High Point!

Welcome to the High Point Neighborhood Website! Located in West Seattle, High Point is the largest master-planned community developed by the Seattle Housing Authority and was designed to be the most progressive environmentally friendly community in the country. It is situated on 120 acres in the middle of West Seattle, and is one of Seattle’s most diverse neighborhoods. When completed in 2010, it will be home to over 4,000 people residing in approximately 1,600 homes. About half of all homes will be owned by individual homeowners; with the other half rental homes. While the majority of rental homes are designated for people with low incomes, some will be rented at market rates.

This website is hosted by the High Point Neighborhood Association to help further it's mission of fostering the development of a vibrant and caring community committed to service, inclusiveness, lifelong learning, and well-being. Neighbors are invited to contribute to the website by e-mailing any of the Neighborhood Association members or the webmaster!

Fresh Fruits & Vegetables!

Posted March 10th, 2010 by news_admin / Filed under: Uncategorized / 0 Comments »

Hey Folks,

As many of you are aware, a coalition called the Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Group (made up of folks from the High Point Neighborhood Association, the Community Leader Program, Be Active Together, and Healthy Kids Healthy Communities) is surveying the High Point Community on their fresh produce needs.

We plan to share the results of the survey with local and potential food providers to demonstrate the demand for fresh produce at High Point and to provide them with information on what kinds of fresh produce the community would most likely buy.

Our goal is to survey at least 200 High Point community members.

Please help our efforts to bring fresh produce to High Point by filling out this survey online:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KPWGC6S

If you have a problem accessing this survey please contact Joyce.

Thanks!
Joyce Tseng

Landscape care/pet responsibility

Posted March 10th, 2010 by news_admin / Filed under: Uncategorized / 0 Comments »

We have noted an increase in pet waste in the common areas around the property as of late.

While we certainly recognize that most pet owners are very thoughtful and responsible about pet waste there may be others who are not. Please respect your neighbors by picking up after your pet. Many people have to walk through grass between their car and their home and stepping in dog-doo is a very unpleasant surprise!

All pet owners living in the community may not be aware that there are Fido Stations at Pond Park, View Point Park, and Commons Park.

Thank you for your continued responsible disposal of your pet’s waste.

High Point Green Drinks!

Posted February 4th, 2010 by news_admin / Filed under: Events / 0 Comments »
February 9, 2010
5:30 pmto9:30 pm

On February 9th, the High Point Center will be hosting the Seattle Green Drinks event. This is a large monthly gathering hosted around Seattle for environmental sustainability-aligned networking.  Guests for the event will start arriving at 5:30 PM and some will stay until 8:30 or 9 PM. We expect a large crowd of 100 people or so.  The theme is to further introduce the Neighborhood House and the High Point Center to Seattle’s environmental community, and to seek support for our second array of solar panels.  We’ll have music, a Neighborhood House slideshow, a few docents outside of the classroom talking about the building and its services, a short presentation from Neighborhood House’s Ray Li, and an ask for solar panel donations.

Beer, wine and cups will only be permitted within the Large Classroom. The meeting rooms, office wing and Head Start areas will be closed off, though guests will stroll through other common areas.

We may also be featuring the Built Green Association of Seattle, who was involved in assuring the high building standards of the entire 120-acre High Point redevelopment.

We’ve been promoting this through the Seattle Green Drinks website and Neighborhood House social networking sites.

Please feel free to come. If you or anyone you (21 and over) know would like volunteer, please direct them to Chris Andree, chrisa@nhwa.org or Jen Rosenbrook, jenr@nhwa.org! Volunteer tasks will include finger food preparation, ID checking, set-up and break-down, and hospitality/building security.

All the best,

Chris Andree
