HOA Board Member Position Open

Jeanette Fournier, our Community Association Manager, sent in the following letter about the Board Member position that has opened in the HOA:

Re: Open Board Member PositionDue to a resignation from the Board there is a vacancy which the Board of Directors is seeking to be filled by an owner of the Association. The term of this position is until the next Annual Meeting of the Homeowners Association in April of 2009.
The Board of Directors is looking for one individual willing to actively participate in the management of the Association as follows:
Candidates must be:
- High Point homeowners
- 18 years of age or older
Desired qualifications might include:
- Experience with some sort of group organization. (HOA, PTA, etc.)
- A genuine commitment to making High Point a success as a diverse, safe and vibrant community.
- A desire and capacity to learn the bylaws and governing documents that apply to the High Point Community.
- The ability to advocate effectively for homeowner’s interest with the Seattle Housing Authority (SHA), High Point Open Space and Neighborhood Associations while not losing site of the High Point community as a whole.
- An innovative and creative homeowner possessing sensitivity to, and tolerance of, differing views, community building skills and integrity.
The HOA Board of Directors meets once a month, on the fourth (4th) Thursday, with meetings lasting about 1.5 hours. This meeting is held at 7 p.m. within the community. Additionally, there is currently one “Working Meeting” each month on the third (3rd) Monday of each month. This is typically held at the HP Management Office at 9 am and lasts about 1.5 hours.
Each Board member can be expected to be assigned to a committee which will conduct business through email or meetings adding an additional one to two hours per month. Board members will adopt the annual HOA budget as well as any changes to the monthly assessments charged to homeowners. In addition, the Board will review monthly financial reports and may be called on to resolve disputes/complaints that can not be addressed at lower levels. Board members will need to develop a method of keeping in touch with community members. A Web page devoted to the HOA is one possible tool. In addition, an e-mail list serve will likely be developed. Other duties may be required.
The HOA Board membership will be a moderate time commitment. Expect to devote 10 to 12 hours per month to HOA business.
Once the application deadline has been reached, the Board of Directors will meet with individual applicants to assess their qualifications.

If you would prefer to simply submit your resume with a statement of interest for now, that would also be acceptable. Please provide this information by July 18, 2008.
