The North Delridge Neighborhood Council sent the following letter asking for feedback on a sidewalk project proposed for Snake Hill.
Dear Neighbors:
We are writing to let you know of a sidewalk project coming to our neighborhood. For years, efforts have been made to obtain a sidewalk on “Snake Hill”. Last year a grant was obtained to build a sidewalk along 30th Ave SW to connect to the existing sidewalk at the top of the hill. This sidewalk, as you well know, will provide a much needed pedestrian connection from High Point to Delridge. It will also help connect to the Longellow Creek Legacy Trail and Camp Long.
The Mayor has made building more sidewalks a top priority and more funding is now available through the Bridging the Gap levy passed in 2006. We were awarded the funding for this project by a citizen’s committee that evaluated over 150 projects citywide. The grant came from the Neighborhood Street Fund, a community-driven funding program administered by the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) and funded by the Bridging the Gap levy.
SDOT has asked us to reach out to neighbors and property owners affected by the sidewalk. We are hoping to make this project an enhancement for both the street and your property.
The project will be designed this year and built in 2009. The design will take the sidewalk all the way to SW Brandon Street but due to funding constraints we only anticipate that we can build the portion to SW Juneau Street. SDOT will contact you with the specific construction schedule early next year. Right now we are asking for your feedback on the attached concept of where the sidewalk will be located. Please feel free to contact Jay at (206) 935-6532 or jaymirro@hotmail.com if you have thoughts or concerns about the project, or Thérèse Casper, Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) if you have design-specific issues to discuss, at therese.casper@seattle.gov or (206) 684-8764. It would be best to hear from you by May 19, when SDOT plans to give their consultant guidance for the next stage of design work.
